march 22th: day 19

day 19- Lobuche to Gorakshep (5,64 m/16,942 ft) and Kala Pattar (5545m/18192ft)

the beginning of the 'big days'.  we made it to lobuche with ease, and the day was clear, so we continued to kala pattar, the highest point that i have ever been.  the walk was a slow slog, up.  passed what at first looked like the top, but no, just hiding the 'black rock' (kala pattar in nepali).  almost thought to just call it a day, and enjoy what was accomplished.  but as it was so clear, pushed on to the small rocky summit.  goal 1, accomplished.  the views were spectacular, and worth all the trouble.  was lucky to be the only ones that climbed it that day, so we had all the time we wanted.

we tried to find a track that would allow us to save the elevation that we gained and make it to base camp, but it was not to be.  after scrambling on boulders trying to reach a path, gave up and headed to a big dinner and early sleep, as tomorrow was going to be equally long (walking time today: 8hrs).
